EQUAL RIGHT

Image
Some couple of months back, I wrote on siblings palava with last borns being my vocal point. It generated a lot of reactions from my readers especially the older siblings. Not to worry dear last borns, I am here  to fight for your right today. Maybe not just last borns but subsequent child(ren), that is, children who are not the first child.  It is a common law in a Nigerian home (still looking for who made the law) to see various pictures of first born child beautifully dressed, cutting birthday cakes and the likes. The love and affection these people receive from our parents are so massive with reason being that they are the first fruit, womb openers and all other terms they are qualified with. Now, do not get me wrong. I am not saying parents do not love subsequent children. Of course, they do.  However, in this case you get to hear " Mio le waku. Ko kuku se alakobi ". Translated as "I cannot come and die. (S)he is not my first child". Some parents even go as far

LAUGHING GAS

Hello lovers, I hope you had a lovely day coupled with the lovely rain. As for me, I feel cool taranranranra.  You do not need to correct my lyrics.😇 It has been a long time since I last posted on "Variety Thursday" session. Oh well, I have glad tidings. I would be throwing back to a funny event that happened ten years back. I know you just screamed, lol . I do have a good memory. Now, imagine the little version of Mobola in a pink check house wear coming into the hostel wearing a tired face, with a bucket of water on her head. Did you get the image? Yes, I trust you did. Well, we would come back to this. Prior to that very hour, I had undergone my normal routine as a student. The school schedule was designed in a way to wear students out each day. As a student, you get to wake up by 5am and not sleep till around 10pm. Let me spell it out for better understanding. A typical routine is waking up by 5am for morning devotion, after which one would go and prepare for class. JSS

REASONS I WAS NOT SO THRILLED ABOUT THIS YEAR'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Image
I read a post on Facebook, precisely on Headstart community group. The writer was not so keen on celebrating his birthday this year and immediately, I could relate to that feeling. My birthday was barely two months ago and unlike previous years when I was fascinated and even threw a small get together, I was skeptical about this year's. If possible, I wanted to become invisible on that day then come back the next day. I just did not want any drama associated with birthday: calls, pouring of water, messages and all.  Now, do not get me wrong. Being skeptical does not mean I did not appreciate God for the privilege of being alive to witness another new beginning. Of course! I did. But rather than receive calls and get carried away by wishes, I wanted a time for self reflection. A lone time to just think and think about how to utilize the new year and develop my capability. All of me wanted a meeting; a meeting with my head and thinking faculty about the way forward.  This was not jus

AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW SESSION WITH OKPALUBA OLUEBUBECHUKWU

Meet Okpaluba Oluebubechukwu, a medical practitioner in view and a special effects makeup artist. Read, as she talks us through her journey and how well she has been able to manage both. Q: Can we meet you? A: My name is Oluebube. I am a final year medical student of Babcock University. I am a creative makeup artist who inspires people through her art. I use the face/body as my canvas. Q: A lot of your friends call you Ebube, which is translated to Glory. Or should I call you Dr. Ebube? What is your full name?  A: You really tried. My full name is Okpaluba Oluebubechukwu, which when translated means, "The glorious work of God." Q: Did you always wanted to study medicine? A: Always? Not really. But I have had the dream for some time. I would say Ben Carson made do it. Just kidding. But he was one of my biggest inspirations, and I mean a doctor is like an extension of Jesus so why not make people's lives better through my touch. Q: When did you decide to become an entrepren

LOCKDOWN SAGA

Image
Yippie! Guess who is back.  It's been such a long break; not that long though. Did I run out of ink? Absolutely not. In fact I have been writing amazing love letters to my future husband and I have them carefully uploaded on drive to avoid loss of data. You just called me petty, right? Well, I am😎 Lately, I've got a lot of how is life treating you, how are you holding up in this lockdown, the situation of the country and all of that. I am quite sure most of my Whatsapp contacts know a little about that because I've been sharing everyday stories of my progression. Not to bore you, the total lockdown really affected me especially my mental health and this was the case of many of us if I am not mistaken. However, the good thing about the whole lockdown saga was the ability to bond with my family. I really can't remember the last time everyone in the family had this close time together. A typical routine was waking up to meet the absence of everyone every morning but you
